Daniela Thomas
Daniela Thomas is a multimidia artist. She has been working in film, theater, opera and exhibition design for the last 35 years in different capacities: director, set designer and script-writer. Born in Rio de Janeiro, in 1959, she is currently based in São Paulo, Brazil, and has worked around the globe.
She has designed sets for over a hundred theater and opera productions in Brazil, Europe and in the United States. For her work as set designer, she was awarded the Golden Triga at the Prague Quadrennial, among numerous awards.
As filmmaker, she has written and directed O BANQUETE, VAZANTE, the opening film of the Berlinale Panorama selection of 2017, has written and co-directed LINHA DE PASSE, official selection of the Cannes Film Festival, 2008 (won the Palm D’Or for Best Actress), FOREIGN LAND, MIDNIGHT and one of the episodes of PARIS JE T’AIME all with Walter Salles. She has co-directed SUNSTROKE with Felipe Hirsch, selected for the Venice Film Festival, 2009.
She was one of the creative directors and the production designer of the RIO 2016 OLYMPICS OPENING CEREMONY and co-directed the LONDON 2020 OLYMPICS FLAGHANDOVER CEREMONY.
